Reaching out to the children of Jamaica who are victims of abuse

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR SPONSORS, SUPPORTERS AND FRIENDS

Jamaica ChildLine Update

EPOCC continues to strive towards providing a dedicated, toll-free Jamaica ChildLine service for the children of Jamaica who are hurting and who have no access to free, confidential counselling.

We have had some challenges in getting started due to the difficulties in acquiring suitable premises and most recently, the loss of the ChildLine Development Manager.

We have been blessed in having a new project leader in Brigette Levy who is working towards securing a partnership with The Multicare Youth Foundation,  myfjamaica.org for children which is based in Kingston.  This partnership will give the ChildLine added impetus in raising awareness and funding.  They are offering us shared office space in the Kingston area which will reduce our overheads.

This move will necessitate us recruiting new volunteers within the surrounding areas of Kingston and will prove more accessible and secure for staff and volunteers.

With this change in direction, we are working towards a launch of the ChildLine in May 2019, which is ‘Child Month’ and also the 30th anniversary year of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.  The ChildLine forms an integral part of the child protection services in Jamaica.

NEW PATRONS AND WE THANK THEM FOR THEIR SUPPORT

We welcome their support and endorsement of EPOCC

SHAUN WALLACE - International TV personality, “The Chaser”, Mastermind Champion, Barrister and Lecturer in Law, Youth Mentor, became our first Patron and supporter since 2015.

THE JAMAICAN HIGH COMMISSIONER AND HIS WIFE - His Excellency Seth George Ramocan & Dr. Lola Ramocan, became our second Patrons in October 2018.

Special Recognition is given to Errol Miller, Executive Chairman of FLOW Telecom, Jamaica who passed away suddenly in September.  He strived tirelessly to ensure that EPOCC was granted the toll-free helpline to provide the Childline counselling service that he firmly believed in. We are saddened that he did not get the opportunity to see it in operation. “FLOW Jamaica mourns the loss of our telecommunications titan, our consummate professional and compassionate foundation chairman.” (Jamaica Observer).
